About

The New Colombo Plan (NCP) Mobility Program is an Australian government initiative designed to deepen the relationship between Australia and other countries in the Indo-Pacific Region. Dr Sim Lau from the School of Computing and Information Technology was successfully awarded an NCP grant in 2017 with project entitled ”Work Integrated Learning for Business and Information Technology Undergraduate Students in Malaysia”. This project aims to support a four-week work integrated learning experience, in a form of industry project, at INTI International College Subang Jaya (https://newinti.edu.my/). The project provides an opportunity for students to be mentored by senior managers at a Malaysian multinational organisation and network with business/IT students studying at the host institution (INTI International College Subang Jaya). This unique industry relevant opportunity enables students to be work ready with Indo-Pacific industry experience upon graduation.

Outcomes

Being mentored and working with Malaysian leading business practitioners and networking with Malaysian students provides an opportunity to 1) appreciate business practices within a multi-cultural context, 2) enhance Indo-Pacific intercultural understanding, and 3) develop effective person-to-person engagement practices and communication skills. Students, participated in this program, must enrol in ISIT200 Industry Placement for Autumn session 2019 and submit a report that meets the requirement of ISIT200.
