Overview
The Engineering Materials Research Centre (EMRC) is closely associated with the Steel Research Hub which co-ordinates research of specific relevance to the steel industry.
EMRC research fits within the ARC strategic research priority area, lifting productivity and economic growth. The production of engineering materials and their use are relevant to a very wide spectrum of industries and activities: energy generation, transportation, manufacturing, mining and so on. Materials innovations are often a central part of new product development and current EMRC research is involved in the development of advanced materials for automotive, building/ construction, pipelines and even biomedical applications. Similarly, innovations in materials processing can have a major impact on the economic viability and environmental sustainability of key industries, such as steel production.
Objectives
- To conduct world-class research in the design, synthesis and characterisation of advanced materials for engineering applications.
- Maintain a special interest in ferrous metallurgy.
